Pinguicula
lilacina
Schlechtendal & Chamisso (1830)
Topographic
map
of Mexico with the currently known locations of P.
lilacina. Populations that where found East of the
Isthmus of Mexico in the State Chiapas or in Guatemala
are very likely P. sharpii.
Habitat
of
P. lilacina
close to the village of La Florida in the Mexican State
of Querétaro at about 1370 m above sea level. The
species grows there on more open slopes in a pine and
oak forest either in mosses or directly in eroded loamy
soil.

Habitat
of
P. lilacina (together with Peter Harbarth) close
to the village of Teocelo in the Mexican State of
Veracruz at approximately 1050 m a.s.l. Plants occur in
a secondary forest in a more hot and
humid subtropical climate. Recent cutting and
mowing of the site has dramatically changed the original
habitat. Most of the plants of P. lilacina have
been destroyed or damaged during this procedure.
1st March 2015
Habitat
of
P. lilacina with flowering plants close to La
Florida. At this location also P. moranensis can
be found (growing a little higher up on vertical slopes
or rocks).

Leaf
rosette
of a plant of P. lilacina with a first flower
bud (location la Florida, Querétaro). Compared to P.
sharpii the leaves are more elongated obovate.
18th February 2015
Adult
plant
with several flower scapes (location Teocelo, Veracruz).
The plants can reach a diameter of up to 8 cm. As
the leaves are very thin, condensed water drops on the
lower can be seen from above.

Group
of
flowering P. lilacina growing in mosses at the
location La Florida.

Front view of a flower of P. lilacina with
cuneiform obovate corolla lobes that are slightly
overlapping. The corolla lobes of the upper lip are
slightly smaller compared to the lobes of the lower
lip.
18th February 2015
Front
view
of a flower of P. lilacina with more elongated
obovate corolla lobes, especially those of the upper
lip. The predominant colours of the corolla are violet,
light violet and light purple. Sometimes also plants
with almost white corolla lobes do occur.

view
of a flower of P. lilacina (location Teocelo,
Veracruz). A typical character for this species is the
hump-like or lentil-like white palate, which is covered
with white hair.
1st March 2015
Front view
of
a light violet flower of a clone from the location La
Florida (in culture). The inner as well as at the outer
side of the corolla tube is traversed by several
red-brown veins.
25th December 2009
Lateral
view
of a flower of P. lilacina at the location
Teocelo, Veracruz. At the end of the cylindrical corolla
tube an up to 4 mm spur can be found, that formes an
obtuse angle with the tube.
1st March 2015
Lateral
view
of a flower (in culture). The flower scape is densely
covered with glands. On the corolla tube and on the spur
glands do occur more sporadically.
